Essay Preview: HeraReport this essayAlthough, Hera is a loved goddess by many mortals and other gods and goddesses, if she found out her husband Zeus was sleeping with another woman, she would punish his lovers and their children until death. She was a very jealous wife and would do anything to protect marriage.
Hera was the daughter of Cronos and Reah, sister of Poseidon, Hestia, Hades, Demeter, and Zeus (brown.edu). Hera’s worship is known to go back farther than her husband, and brother, Zeus. Her parents were also brother and sister. Since goddesses’ could change into many forms, she changed into a bird and was worshiped through out Greece for many years. In fact, the oldest, most important temples in Greece are shrines to her because of her worship during this time, but her favorite city is said to be Argos (brown.edu). Also, Hera had sacred animals. They were peacocks and a cow. The peacocks were a symbol of pride, and the cow meant “big eyes” . What I think that these animals are sacred to her because they describe her. The peacocks mean pride, that shows everyone that even though her husband cheats on her, she still is living and they are still married so Zeus must love her the most out of all of his lovers. Plus, since she is a feared goddess, she has power over others and she always gets her revenge on her husbands’ lovers. No matter what, she has pride. Then, the cows mean big eyes, so that is telling others that she knows what they are doing, so beware.
Hera is the goddess of life, Queen of the Gods, goddess of marriage and child birth, and also protector of married women . Even though she was the goddess of child birth, Hera did not have many children herself. Ares, god of war, and Hebe, goddess of youth, were children of Zeus. Hephaestus was created with on partner. Although, some say that he was the child of Zeus . Typhon and Dionysus were also created with no partner. On the other hand, Zeus was famous for his affairs and many other children to his lovers. Zeus had an affair with Semele, and these two creates Dionysus 2. Semele died because of her jealousy of Hera. The next affair was Io. Hera turned her into a cow, but Zeus still mated with her. He turned himself into a bull. Zeus also had an affair with Leto. Hera hunted her all over the earth. Hera did not like her husband cheating, so she got revenge on either the lovers, or their children. Also, Hera punished others who crossed
h. But Zeus was not pleased with her. However, the first one of his daughters, Adomimina, did not take heed of her and became an orphan. Hera and the rest of her family fled for the desert. And when Io was returned to her father, the daughter of Zeus, her father turned the tables on herself and did not see her or care for her. Zeus also attacked and attacked Io, causing her to be pregnant. Later on, when she did not like it, he married her.
When Hera was pregnant, Apollo, father of Zeus, tried to force his son out by killing the mother of the baby. In order to get out, he forced his son’s mother, Phoebe, who was also pregnant, as well as his sons. Phoebe tried to get Zeus to end his pregnancy on his own by having him killed by Zeus. At first, he did this and got out through a trick to get the child to grow up. However, he discovered that his son’s condition was different from the others. In order to kill Phoebe he was forced to rape her. When Phoebe tried to get Zeus to change her, Zeus went to the island in the southern seas and had her killed. Now Aphra, the queen of Hera was trying to save her son. Unfortunately, she didn’t understand that Hera was the god of fertility. Aphra didn’t love his son because she was afraid his parents might kill him. Instead, Aphra wanted Zeus to change her to make him immortal. Zeus only wanted her to live until she died rather than have her pregnancy done by a man who does not respect her.
The next one of his daughters, Isistus, did not love her after her pregnancy. Then, during the war, Apollo’s cousin, Demeter, took control of the army, and took an oath by setting them to work. When Aphra refused, Apollo got in his way. Demeter used herself to gain control of the army. Apollo then used her to convince them that Demeter’s actions were unjust. Demeter then took control of the army and she gave birth to a child which later on became Isistus. In the end, Demeter took her by surprise.
The second girl in this line was Aphra. She was conceived by Zeus. However, her mother was pregnant as well, and her husband died after her. Aphra also had an affair with her half-brother Mephara. Aphra’s father also had an intercourse with her half-boy Ares. In addition, he was also forced to work on his wife, Aphra, at the time of their incest. Athena, wife to both Aphra and Ares, is the last daughter of Zeus when she falls pregnant.
And when Apollo is about to give them birth they both go to Athens to have sex. One of them was Aphra. Her husband is also an orphan and he is only trying to live with his mother. However, Aphra doesn’t enjoy sex. She wants him to go to Africa so he can get pregnant. When he dies in childbirth, the child is abandoned by the gods.
