NOTES ABOUT CULTURAL POLICY(HERITAGE)TEAM ???黄怡颖 1231200021Introduction to EgyptHistorical background    There are some evidences showed that the country was inhabited before the Sahara started to form around 8000 BC.     During the Neolithic era, several pre-dynastic cultures developed independently in Upper and Lower Egypt. Geography    It is located in the northeast corner of the African continent, on the Mediterranean Sea, at a crossroad between Africa, Asia and Europe.    The country is divided into 4 main geological areas:- Nile Valley and Delta: which is the most fertile agricultural land.- Western Desert: it is one of Egypt’s most arid regions which covers 2/3 of the country’s total land area.- Eastern Desert: This area has Egypt’s richest in natural resources, include gems, coal and oil.- Sinai Peninsula: a triangularly shaped plateau linked from its north-western corner to Egypt’s mainland.Economy     Egypts economy depends mainly on agriculture, natural gas, and tourism;      Egyptian society is moderately unequal in terms of income distribution —— with an estimated 35 – 40% of Egypts population earning less than the equivalent of $2 a day, while only around 2–3% may be considered wealthy.Population      The estimated total population of Egypt is about 87 million      Most of the Egyptian population is concentrated near the River Nile.      Of the population circa 95% is Egyptian and the vast majority of the population is Muslim.Lifestyle      Modern skyscrapers, highways and many western things blend together with ancient pharaonic ruins, Islamic mosques and other ancient unique local things in Egypt.      As for the rest of the country, life in modern Egypt for the fellahin is similar to their ancient Egyptian ancestors. They inhabit the rural villages along the Nile with traditional agricultural lifestyle
