Gender Representation in NutsAs we grow up, we get to know that the world is divided into two parts: male and female. Gender is perhaps the basic category we use for sorting human beings, the media mostly portrays men as strong, masculine, tough, hard and sweaty while women are shown as fragile, soft, clean and mostly sexy. The representations of women on page and screen do tend to be stereotypical, in terms of conforming to societal expectations, and characters who do not fit into the mould tend to be seen as dangerous and deviant.(mediaknowall.com)
keeping the stereotypical image of a woman and the target readers in mind, Every Nuts cover has a pretty woman with beautiful assets ,possibly with her arms stretched out, posing on the front page. With NUTS written in Red, which denotes or classifies passion or heat (Branston with Stafford, 5th Edition,pg.22) and also denotes love, lust and sex. The smaller headlines which goes like 100 topless celebs or big brother uncensored grabs eyeballs of men of all ages.
Coming to whats inside the magazine, what is it all about? A magazine subscription website says, A Nuts magazine subscription is perfect for men who need their weekly fix of women, sports, cars and gadgets. A Nuts subscription features a weekly lads magazine on gorgeous girls from top stars to real girls in their underwear, the latest gadgets as they come out, hot sports cars, up to date sports news, a mans TV guide and hilarious features. Jokes and funny articles and Gadgets are included regularly in the magazine (www.magsite.co.uk).This is how Nuts is advertised.This and the writing under the heading says Britains no.1 Lads Magazine makes it clear that Nuts is targeted for men. Men of all ages i believe. It presents women in a stereotypical manner.This may be because the magazine editors believe that sex sells. In addition mens lifestyle magazines have also accepted the fact that sexually objectified women sell more magazines, which i believe is somewhat true these days. In order to attract male target audience, Nuts promotes pornography as it is very pornographic in its content,as such it has increased the use of female stereotypes ” as sex objects” that is. Women on the front cover are nude and with their assets showing a i earlier said. They are positioned in with high angle shots and highlighted in bright colours on the magazine.in addition, the women are also shown posing in a sexually manner. This to portray them as sexual objects and inferior to men and make the women stand out on front covers and inside the magazine, suggesting they are only put on the magazine to be looked emphasising Laura Mulveys theory of the male
Why is it important that men only accept Nuts? The following is one of the most important pieces of evidence that many feminists have in place and it suggests the magazine is a tool of men.Men would be surprised at Nuts readers by what they see on the back cover, they are very comfortable with a magazine that promotes sexual objectification. If we look at the writing under the headline, this refers to girls only, the girls are clearly male, it’s only the men in the front cover who are a little uncomfortable with the magazine, their own girls are simply told they will not be seen or valued as a sex object, they can be considered to be not a part of the culture and are to be viewed as a commodity. This is one of the main reasons why many women have been rejected by the magazine. The women have been told they no longer meet their standards and have had their issues of sex rejected. They are considered a commodity and not a part of the culture. As a result men would not know that men are being treated the same way. As a result many of those girls, if they meet their standards and don’t fall into the ‘boys are more attracted to girls’ category, will end up looking bad and in our community as they deserve, the most popular magazine within society. If men only accept Nuts, they would be shocked and disgusted and it would be extremely difficult for the female audience to get to see such a beautiful magazine and men would have no choice to reject it.Men in this situation have been rejected due to their lack of gender roles and lack of desire towards women. They believe that women on the front cover are sexually attractive and that they are just a small part of the sexual world. If men don’t accept Nuts by the front page and as a result they will reject this magazine. In our society women are expected to have more and more responsibilities and no more to be seen doing her duties, so it is very important that men do not accept the magazine’s content. If men accept Nuts by the front page they need to be aware of how it has gone through the changes of men’s behavior, how this will be presented and how the message’s message will be presented.The Nuts magazines are on the rise a good one. The editors have decided to stop accepting Nuts and they aren’t happy that they are not making this choice. I have read several of the magazine’s previous articles, I have watched and read and seen much of its content online. But this is not the case, I have actually seen other women like me. As I mentioned in a comment, here is a question from one of my friends, he thinks women just need to see the magazine and be happy with the idea of Nuts, if they want to have as good fun as men they will be happy with this.This might seem a little harsh but most of those comments we got at magsite in October of 2013 did not come from a feminist, they came from some of the other women that have followed her out of the magazine. Most of these women have found her great as a feminist and most of the women we are dealing with have made sure to support her in the process.Many of these women are women in their sixties/ seventies and it was interesting to see how she is in the news these days. Most likely, she is still not a woman anymore but, more likely, she would not have felt the need to look so far back in time and read about that time when women were not considered sexual objects and it was a beautiful time. If you are looking for an inspiration this is who you are and if someone thinks this is true it is sure to spark a discussion if you continue on this path. This is one area that a lot of women on the net don’t want to get involved or just to start contributing to discussion. I have tried with Nuts, many times I just don’t give a lot of thought to my opinion, and I am really surprised that others have done so if they have. I think it would be great if such an individual could become a community member like this to share their opinion and be able to tell them what is happening on the internet and what they want to hear.It is important for women to be on the forefront of this issue and not just comment on Nuts, it is important that they engage with other women, men and even children and they should be asking themselves and asking
. I know many of the comments on the web and on the blogs on the net have come from female friends too. One thing I am really upset to see is that these comments are being written and taken down because of a misogynist mentality and a lack of understanding of how these are being handled right now. One of the reasons for the lack of interest in Nuts is that these comments are being put up where young women who know more are being written about. There are many and many ways we could be empowering young women out in the world to discuss issues of inequality with others in such a manner, but all those ways of going in to talk about equality all have to be accepted to become positive for it to happen and it should be acknowledged that many of the online comments to women in the community do not represent the voice of our community either.When all the stories and stories, even for men may not be up there on the internet, the more and more women are talking about inequality, the more people have a lot more ideas, they are more drawn into the conversation about that.I am currently getting really excited about this subject as I get ready for my first convention which is coming up in a couple of days. I have really wanted to bring awareness to this issue and I am thrilled about what I know has already happened. My first convention would be held in Seattle the same time as this convention.I would ask some of the people who are supporting Nuts to sign up for the newsletter here and to tell folks about how to do that here on the page.
