Mainly, leading discussion means you will largely make the class talk. Choose the questions you ask the class carefully. Word these questions clearly.
Use wait time to allow students to think after asking a question.
Call on students if there is over-participation by some, lower participation by others, or no response.

Take out (article #1). What were the main ideas presented in this section/table/article?
Here was my (our) reaction to this idea. (be descriptive, clear, comprehensive) What did you think about this particular idea? Does anyone see it a different way?
What are your main take-aways from this article? Will (and if so how) might these ideas be useful to you?
Do you think the author has clearly communicated his or her ideas? What do you like/dislike about his or her writing style?
What were your reactions to this article, did you like it, dislike it?
