Tango! Managing Self & Leading Others
TANGO! MANAGING SELF & LEADING OTHERSZhang Mengyu, JennyStudent ID: 16097356DTUT010  Fri 8:30-9:20Tutor’s name: TAN Haoyi, HollyIntroductionI would like to analyze a year two FB student major in Management and Marketing called Lily, who took this subject MM1051 last semester. The reason I choose Lily is that we have been roommates for more than one years, during which we acquired adequate knowledge about each other, not only on the study performance or abilities but also the characteristic, thoughts and even some inside emotions. Lily is a girl from Shandong Qingdao, which is in the north-east of mainland China. It might be the culture and custom of her hometown that partly contributes to her outgoing and open personality. Her openness could be better reflected by her interests in daily life. She is quite into various sports like tennis, swimming and skiing, which according to her, could embed more active and healthy feeling into herself. She has also mentioned sports provide her a method to address the pressure in University life. Actually, behind her outgoing characteristic and optimistic attitude, Lily is a person with high self-discipline and self-demanding. She is quite strict to herself that a little flaw of her life or result on study would bring her anguish and a sense of dissatisfaction. When she is under pressure, her energy will decline, and we can tell the anxiety and stress on her face. Sometimes she pours out her inner emotion with me, from which I find she is under more pressure than I have imagined.
Lily’s Big Five result could better present her traits. She has a moderate level in both “openness” and “agreeableness” factors. For “conscientiousness” factor, lily tends to be more “efficient”, which exactly explains her self-discipline. Besides, she leans slightly to “outgoing” in the “extraversion”. And for “neuroticism” factor, she is a little “sensitive”.Diagnosis Lily’s inspiration is to become a CMO of a company in Hong Kong, this is also why she chose management as her major. She wants to first enter the human resources department of a desirable company and then get the promotion step by step until she becomes one of the top managers of that company through her own efforts. I think the main obstacle that she needs to overcome is better managing her pressure.Since, CMO is a position calling for considerable time and energy to manage many company affairs and coordinate things from every aspect, being a manager will always be full of pressure. Those pressure may come from the subordinates, higher directors and also the private life. Appropriate level of pressure may increase the efficiency. However, too much pressure may create some negative effects on the work performance. Additionally, the nature of manager’s job determines that one should always get in touch with people and work with people, therefore, there is great importance that the manager will not express their own pressure and anxiety and convey them subconsciously to others, especially the employees.
