Verdict of GuiltyEssay Preview: Verdict of GuiltyReport this essayHowever Atticus has proof that Tom is no way possible guilty of the crime. (Harper, Lee)The main point that Lee wants readers to take away, I think is that fact that killing someone or something that is innocent is sinful, and wrong. If a person is innocent they should be left alone, and if there is proof to show that the person is innocent, then they should not be given the verdict of Guilty. It is a saying that a person is innocent until proven guilty. I also think that Lee wants people to understand that fact as well. (Harper,Lee)
This book in fact does leave a mark on me. I think that it is horrible to kill someone that is completely innocent. I am currently in the process of following a story, where a boy was killed because he “LOOKED suspicious. This boy was followed and killed because he had a black hooded jacket on and began to run, once the officer started chasing him. The officer in this situation was questioned and released and is not behind bars. Now there is a family that has to bury their 14 year old son. This story shows how bad racism was and how it can affect lives. I am now aware of how bad racism was, and Im still shocked because to this day we are still dealing with the situation. (Lee,Harper)
Citizen: “All people who can kill on a single day of the week, or in the heat of the moment, deserve to be arrested for something like that!”
In the story, Officer Richard Covington is shown carrying a weapon on the officer.
This book is a slap in the face to most of us. We know that being wrong is OK, but seeing a racist officer be a weapon in your face, is how we have to end this. That being said, I love all the kids to come to us and tell us how sad this is. You guys get the idea.
The only good you can do is say what you are doing and don’t give in to our feelings of guilt. This book has put to rest our belief in race and to our expectations of what good black people would look like in that light right after a black kid was killed. These are my stories.
