Character, a moral quality that is distinctive to an individual. Everyone has character the most important part about it is who you really are in the past, present and future. In my life I have had many moments that shape me into who I really am, but I have had one juncture that has change my life for every. This is a point in time that I will never forget, the moment I saw a man die.The year is 2015, in the small town Matagalapa, Nicaragua. I am staying at a Franciscan Friary with my fellow Jesuits for a mission trip. At the time I and twelve other Jesuit boys had all been in the town for three days now helping hand out food and clothes to the poverty stricken town of Matagalapa, but that wasn’t the only thing we were doing. The main priest of the trip, Father Hough, wanted us to do more this time then just service, he wanted us to get to know the people of this quant town. In these first three days the twelve of us made a group of friends with the local kids in the area. We had been playing soccer with them and buying them food because they all were beggars and would sniff glue to take away their hunger pains, it really was a depressing sight. Now most people would think these kids went happy, but they were littered with life and enthusiasm for even the smallest things. These kids really made you stand back and look at how joyful they were even though they literally had nothing. On the start of are fourth day we were changing things up and going to hand supply’s out at the hospital. My mother being the holy person she is gave me hundreds of pictures of the sacred heart of Jesus. If you don’t know what that is it is a picture of Jesus Christ with his hands out and the blood and water flowing from his chest through rays of gallant light. As we first arrived at the hospital we were rushed out of the compacted van into the hospitals chapel. When we arrived we were greeted by the friar that worked there, he explained to us how we would approach people and offer them supply’s. When we started to hand things out we went from room to room each compacted with way to many people. Most of these people you could tell where very sick and weren’t going to get much better, but they were all surrounded by their families and friends with loving kind hearts. After about an hour of handing these pictures out and getting warm smiles back, I walked into a room with about ten people in it. There was a man who looked to be in his fifty’s, who was too weak to speak, but made a hand jester for me to come over. As I walked over to him I handed him the picture of the sacred heart of Jesus he smiled at me and I smiled back. Then as I turn to walk to the next person I heard a loud flatling from a machine as if I were in a movie and then in a quick hustle we are pulled out of the room and two doctor’s rush in. As we were standing outside the room confused and trying to make scene of what had just happened one of the doctors come out of the room and tells us the man’s heart had stopped and he had just passed away. This was the moment of realization of mine, that the last thing that man had ever seen was the picture of Jesus that I had given him. This exacta moment in time has secured my faith in are lord beyond belief, it was truly inspiration and will forever affect my moral quality’s in my character of a person.
