I chose exercising for the Lewin Model of Change. I hate it. Period. I get a kick out of Taebo, hate running, and get really tired of the Downward-Facing Dog pose of Yoga. In Kansas there are no mountains to climb or trails to hike. The one form of exercise I can really say I like and feel good afterwards is Pilates. With writing this paper I am going to stop the no exercise cycle with these three steps.
Unfreeze – To unfreeze I am going to challenge myself to do Pilates five days a week for one month. If I stick to it, Ill buy myself the digital camera I really want but dont need. The main problem with this is that if my schedule gets off track by thirty minutes I wont do it. For instance, I leave work at four, pick up my daughter, and we are home by 4:20. If I were to go to the grocery store or my parents house, I would ditch the Pilates. You see, Pilates starts at 4:30, at least in my head it does.
Change Itself – I will not schedule my exercising. I will do it on a daily basis no matter what time I get home from work. I will remember that I do not need to get it done by a certain time. Some day I will actually get out of bed at five when my alarm goes off instead of hitting the snooze for another hour or so.
Refreezing – I will think of the future when Im a little more flexible, fit into my clothes better, and can hold my new camera instead of staring at the picture that Im putting up on the wall.
I think the Lewin Model of Change will be a great thing for me. This is something Ive been saying I would do but still procrastinated in doing it. Ive already started this week and I think my back is feeling a bit better from all the stretching.
