Nature of Thought
The nature of thought is a fascinating topic for conversation; however, to understand it one must also know the different facets of thinking. The three major aspects to explore when discussing thinking are the sensing process, memory, and medium. There are also certain perceptual blocks, thoughts, and a personal barrier that may hinder a persons thought process.
The first part of thinking to explore is the sensing process, this is very important to the process of thinking. Without our senses that stimulate the brain, you would be unable to think. Hearing, smelling, touching, tasting, seeing different things in our environment which are stored in the brain all help us to think and to have thoughts about different situations. The next component of thinking that is a must is the memory. Memories help to define the past and the information that has been stored in the brain is crucial when the brain is in the process of thought. It helps to process different situations and understand thoughts that have occurred in the past and help to form our future. The last piece of thinking and maybe the most important is the medium in which all of the other parts transfer into the brain. Language is the thinking medium, without language we would not be able to articulate or interpret information to remember or to think. Language structures perceptions and is the catalyst of thought.
When it comes to my own perceptual process although I try to always think positively negative thoughts always appear in my brain leading me to judge quickly. Instead of gathering all the facts and hearing all point of views I will just jump to an irrational conclusion. Many people have this problem of ignoring or not hearing others point of views which cause perception blocks. Most people forget that not everyone shares the same views and morals which can make it hard to understand different points of views. A result of this type of behavior may lead to being bias towards others behavior and assumptions. A positive alternative for this type of perception block is to receive all the facts and information before any kind of judgments
An example of that is the other day, the phone rang and as soon as I saw my mothers name, I let out an enormous sigh. She had called to express her frustration in me because she felt I was not keeping in touch with my brother. I tried to explain that I do talk to him on a regular basis but that I do have my own life as well. She went into this lengthy story on how he was going through a hard time in his life, I tried to explain that I understood that but that I was also going through a hard time and was getting over a sickness. She was not listening and that immediately made me feel the need to defend myself.
