DARRELL
Hello, welcome to Sports wrap, Im Darrell Louder.
With the football season officially over, the olympics winding down, America starts turning her eye back to its favorite past-time, baseball. Though baseball season doesnt start for another 2 months, we dive into spring training. Many think that spring training doesnt mean that much. Not so this year. To the Red Sox, it will mean a lot.
Manager Terry Francona will be carrying on without pitching coach Dave Wallace, who is recovering from a serious infection in his hip that could keep him out of all or most of spring training. Hell be replaced by Al Nipper.
Francona also will be without those Red Sox participating in the World Baseball Classic March 3-20. That list includes the top two shortstops on the depth chart: Alex GonzĂ”ĂĹ˝lez and Alex Cora.
Francona, who will arrive in Fort Myers, Fla., today, is excited about watching players who normally wouldnt get much playing time. Dustin Pedroia could get ample time at shortstop, though Francona said hell also use him at second base.
The manager said playing time will be available for outfield prospects Brandon Moss and David Murphy.
Pedroia has been playing second in the minors the past two seasons because Hanley RamĂ”Ârez was the shortstop, but Pedroia is a natural shortstop and hell get to play the position now that RamĂ”Ârez was traded to the Marlins.
With Manny RamĂ”Ârez likely to have an extended stay with the Dominican team, Moss and Murphy will get to show how close they are to being major league-ready.
Veteran catchers John Flaherty and Ken Huckaby, as well as the recently acquired Josh Bard, formerly of the Indians, will get plenty of time as captain Jason Varitek toils for Team USA.
On the flip side, Varitek wont get the chance to work with Josh Beckett and the crew of new relievers as much as he might like.
Variteks absence is also significant because two key members of the pitching staff, Curt Schilling and Keith Foulke, are embarking on comeback seasons.
According Francona, Schilling is ready to goand Foulke is coming along better than planned; however, you cant really tell anything until you watch them throw.
Reporting from the Wildcats Gymnasium, Im Darrell Louder, Jerome?

Now to the story of a young mother and her baby daughter shot to death in their home outside of Boston. Today, Scotland Yard arrests the husband and father, charging him with their murders.
Just a short while ago, the Middlesex district attorney wrapped up her press conference where she really filled in some of the details surrounding this murder mystery. She said that Neil Entwistle, they suspect that he killed his wife and his baby girl Lillian because of financial reasons. She said that that was the motive behind the murders.
Basically, that this is a man who had financial problems in England, had financial problems here. She believes he became overwhelmed, and because of that he decided to kill his wife and baby girl.
She believes also that this was a failed murder-suicide. She also laid out some of the basic details in terms of the timeline of how they believed the murders happened.
The district attorney also explained that it was just two days ago that they got the test results back on the .22 caliber weapon that they believe was used in the murders. After they got the test results back, they were then able to ask for the arrest warrant.
That arrest happened this morning, 7:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time in London. Thats when Scotland Yard officials caught up with Entwistle, who was apparently in London visiting friends. They caught up with him on the tube, made the arrest without incident.
Now, what happens next is, tomorrow, Entwistle is scheduled to appear before a magistrate. Perhaps at that time, Daryn, well get more of a sense of whether or not he plans to fight extradition on whether or not he will waive extradition back here to Massachusetts.
It is about eight minutes after the hour right now. With that we come to our Musical Ear Updates with our corrospondant Patrick ___________.
JEROME.
Thank you.
