Leadership and management are traits that work together, although different, these aspects interrelate and complement each other. Leaders motivate and inspire others. A managers job is to coordinate, plan, and organize. Managers develop talents within workers and nurture their skills in an effort to improve organizational efficiency. The differentiation of leaders and managers is indicative through values, beliefs, and competencies. This paper focuses on the differences between leadership and management. The paper also provides an example of a leader and manager, and considers a public sector leadership event.

Differences between Leadership and Management
Leadership and management are regularly applied in corporations to portray an important person who supervises a group of individuals. In actuality leadership versus management has distinctive significance. An excellent manager should comprehend what he or she must undergo to become a proficient leader. Breaking down the uniqueness of a manager in his or her position, in a corporation will display an individual with his or her main motivation on supervising a group of individuals and his or her actions. This position can fluctuate by choice, styles of positions and can at times focus on power beyond individual management. In order for individuals to comprehend leadership and management, it is necessary to come up with the meaning of both words. However, this may not be simple to do. Every individual has his or her own definition of leadership, whereas, leaderships definition is broadly defined. On the other-hand management is barely definitive. Leadership can influence others into working toward and achieving goals. An outlook of leadership is that a good number of successful leaders are born, where others may have to learn to be a leader. It is also believed that just because someone is a manager, does not mean he or she is an effective leader, and the opposite is also true an effective leader is not always a good manager.

Leadership and management is terminology exercised reciprocally, even though they are dissimilar. A leader is someone who applies person to person talent to persuade others to achieve his or her goals. A manager is a person who works for a corporation and is accountable and held accountable for completing the objectives of the corporation. An individual may be an effective leader but he or she does not excel at management, and a manager may not be an effective leader. Managers tend to be problem solvers by nature and are scientific in their approach on finding solutions to problems, while leaders are open, communicative, frank, and participative that encourages the application of new ideas to solve problems (Toor & Ofori, 2008).
