Human Conscience Interview
Marcia ninka used to be my families house keeper. She is an African American. She was born in St Vincent Islands. I chose to interview Marcia because growing up as a child she was always taking care of my brother and I while my parents were at work. I interviewed her over at her new job location. I want to learn as much as possible from Marcias interview. She has had a lot of experiences through her life.
Do you think that racism is still a problem today? Can you share any examples of racism from you personal experiences?
She said that it is still a problem today even though it is not as evident. When she was looking for work she got the feeling that some people didnt hire her because of the color of her skin.
Do you feel comfortable in most places such as airports, malls?
She said that she is very comfortable no matter where she goes. She said people are always going to judge you just have to get over it.
Do you feel your race is an obstacle that you face everyday?
She feels that being black can some times be difficult. People treat her differently because the color of her skin. It is the biggest factor when she was trying to find a job when she first came from the St. Vincent Islands.
Have you ever been attacked because of your race, religion or sexual orientation?
When she was working for a nursing home the manager didnt like something she did and said that she better do a better job or her “black ass” will be thrown out of there.
Did you ever wish you were different?
She said that she did think about it. She wondered how it was to be white and not have to deal with most of the racism out there.
Have you ever felt that you had to represent your entire race?
She said that it is not her job to do that. She feels everyone has to do there part.
Would you ever date someone outside your race?
Yes and she has dated someone who was white.
Do you feel pressured to hide who you are because you are a minority?
She said definitely not. She is very proud of who she is, and would never hide her true self.
What type of environment did you grow up in?
She grew up on the Island of St. Vincent. She said that the weather is great all the time and her family is still living there. She moved from there to get a new opportunity.
How did it feel growing up as a black woman?
She said that being black women was very stressful. She was always forced to work harder than others around her because of her appearance. She said that in the long run it made her a better person.
What are the advantages of being a black woman?
She said that the
