Drug TraffickingEssay Preview: Drug TraffickingReport this essayJosh LaPlanteTuesday, April 26, 2005Mrs.CuellarDrugs and BehaviorMaking Marijuana Legal? When discussing whether to ultimately make marijuana legal or maintaining the current restrictions on the substance, it is necessary to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages the general public would gain by either decision. You can go almost anywhere and find someone who is either for or against this topic. Some say marijuana is harmless and has definite medical and recreational value. Still, others say that it is a very dangerous drug and should be kept illegal and off the streets because of it being known as the “gateway” drug.
I have read plenty of information about this issue and I would be inclined to say that there are no definite benefits associated with marijuana legalization, but I see a lot of positive benefits on the general public. There are certainly some who prefer the weed for a better medical reason. So I have not identified specific benefits of legalization. The obvious obvious one is that the cost of legal marijuana is lower than it would be if marijuana wasn’t legal in the U.S and that there would be a lot less traffic accidents, suicides and property damage. If we could reduce traffic injuries at home by 50%, the traffic problem would go away. I can’t think of any benefit from legalization of marijuana by any chance of reducing the number of accidents in our country even when our country is not like a developed world. It does not seem to have a strong interest among the population that is willing to let a drug that has proven to be highly addictive be taken down in a more cost effective manner. But even without a medical effect on the person, marijuana cannot and should not be viewed as a dangerous substance. The more we ban it, the less this drug will be able to harm people. Our laws are designed to make a positive difference, not to make any difference at all in the general public. The main drawback or disadvantage of legalizing marijuana is that the drugs that were legalized are extremely harmful to the state of California. Therefore, a lot of people are not able to use marijuana in the long run. There is good scientific evidence to support legalizing marijuana – to the point where there is an official recommendation from the Federal Minister of State of California. I suggest the public come to us and give an example of what you can do while you are watching local TV. The first thing you should do is decide where you are going to go to get marijuana. You don’t have to be on a regular basis and you never know what might happen in an emergency. Now that you have done some personal research, I can assure you that it will not be illegal to buy marijuana. It is simply not possible otherwise. There are a large number of schools and commercial establishments in California with no prohibition but allowing smoking and possessing weed. If you have a criminal record, you can get your license from a state that permits it. A student who is convicted of a marijuana use offense will be able to avoid that sentence if he has no criminal record. It is unlikely that he would make it out of this prison without the help of some other person who might help him. You are probably surprised to see how many people don’t even have criminal records or they are unaware of the negative impact marijuana has on society, as marijuana is dangerous. Marijuana is an addictive drug – so if you were to take cocaine for 2 days or more, you actually had to
Marijuana is and, in my mind, always will be an illegal drug. Tons of it are shipped either in or out of the United States every year. It is probably one of the most attainable illegal drugs on the streets and is available pretty much everywhere. People have been abusing marijuana for centuries and still there is a debate whether to legalize it or not. It is a CNS depressant that can either be smoked or sometimes ingested orally. Marijuana has been shown to drastically slow reflexes in users and has been linked to car crashes and other accidents where fast reflexes were required. Since it is almost always smoked, the user runs the risk of contracted lung and other types of

We now know that this is not true and that most of the time it does the exact opposite and makes the user very lethargic and almost catatonic if the user becomes too intoxicated by the substance. Besides the obvious risks associated with smoking marijuana there is the belief that marijuana, in some cases, can lead to the abuse of harsher more illicit drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. This is one of the most startling things about marijuana and if true, may be one of the main reasons that we never see it legalized.
