Rebuttal paper against Marijuana  Roberto Valenzuela Jr.BCOM/275July 19, 2014Dale Wright                 Rebuttal against Marijuana Cannabis better known as “Marijuana” is a natural herbal plant that contains active ingredients like, tetrahydrocannabine, cannabidiol, cannabinol and tetrahydrocannabivarin. These ingredients are known to have psychoactive and physiological effects. Methods of use include smoking, vaporizers, edibles, tinctures and tonics and teas.         Cannabis is consumed mostly for its effect in mood change from mad to happy, euphoria, relaxation and an increase in appetite. There are also many negative effects to the user like, decrease in short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills, reddening of the eyes and feelings of paranoia or anxiety.        Attempts to enforce regulations and restrictions lead as far back as 1860. In order to control the misuse of marijuana new laws and acts have come to life. First act to be introduced was that of, Marijuana tax act of 1937. This act was intended for the seller to pay taxes on his sales. While acts against marijuana have been developed, acts to legalized marijuana have arisen too. Making some states for or against marijuana. Only twenty-three states are known to legalize marijuana for medical and recreational use. States like California, Colorado, and even Washington DC are known to have legalized the use of marijuana. Legalizing marijuana also comes with new laws, fees and possession limitations. Every state has its own restrictions and regulations to follow. Some states are more flexible in how much amount you could possess at one time. Leaving people to continue fighting for more rights to allow them more flexibility and people that fight against, to continue fighting for new restrictions and even to ban it all together. People like Seth Millstein, a writer for www.bustle.com argues that if alcohol and cigarettes are legal marijuana should be too. He goes by saying marijuana is less addictive, and that alcohol and cigarettes have been the cause for many deaths. Millstein argues that alcohol impairs and is the cause for many fatal accidents, and it should be illegal too. He said that he had never heard of an overdose like alcohol poisoning or prescription pill overdose. Millstein then hits the medical reasons like, its medical properties that aid in physical and mentally pain. He explains, marijuana is not associated with lung cancer like cigarettes are and that we will benefit from taxing sales making our economy stronger than ever.         Seth Millstein seems to have backed up reasons for legalizing marijuana, but I believe there are other options available that will cause fewer problems and more solutions. Responses to Millstein ArgumentsMarijuana is less addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. This might be true, but it does not make a strong and beneficial argument. Marijuana is known to lead to other stronger drugs like crack cocaine, heroin, and meth enphedemi. Many people loose their jobs, homes, family and sadly even their lives to these drugs. These drugs also set crime rate higher because people on drugs will do anything to support their habit. We know that cigarettes and alcohol are a problem, so why add to the fire?
