Marriage is the social institution by which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments and religious ceremonies. (dictionary.com) It is a relationship where two people decide that they are already certain in sharing each other’s lives for the rest of their time. Two people who are deeply in love and are confident that they will make each one’s lives special, will come to a decision to get married and live together. Everyday there are many people getting married. In fact, there are several reasons for two people to want to get married; however, there are also many reasons for married couples to want to get divorce, or annulment in the case of the Philippines, because divorce is not allowed and acceptable in our country. In most couples, the primary reason for them to get married is love. But what if the love had suddenly vanished? What if they realized that their partners were not the person they want to spend the rest of their life with? What if one day they suddenly woke up and realized that love is not enough to keep their marriage? There are a lot of what if’s in this situation, and in this essay I will impart my insights with the reasons why married couples get unhappy with their marriage and eventually would wish to get separated with their husband or wife.
Annulment of marriage is the determination of the court that the supposed marriage was not legally valid. All marriages, which will be subjected to annulment, should be classified as void. A void marriage is one that is considered as invalid in all respects. Examples of these are incest and bigamy. Marriages of the under aged, the insane, and those procured by fraudulent means may also become a basis for annulment. According to the Your Legal Guide, the fundamental difference between a divorce and a marriage annulment is that a divorce ends a marriage that is no longer working, while an annulment declares there was never a legal marriage at all.
The main reason for couples to want to get annulment is that they are unhappy and they cannot think of anything to solve the problem but to be separated. This starts with the lack of communication between the couple. They may be ashamed of their feelings or their deeds that they do not want to talk about it with their partner. On the other hand, if they are talking to each other, what only happens is talking. There is no listening and understanding so, the communication between the couple still fails even if they try to. That is the problem. When you only look at your side of the story and refuse to look on the other side, what happens is not communication, but rather, miscommunication. Eventually, this will grow from dissatisfaction to frustration to anger. Ultimately, this will
