The most popular holiday in America that occurs in October is “Halloween”. The ancient tradition for the night of Halloween was for people to disguise themselves in costumes and masks as spirits for protection against evil spirits and the devil. In the present, it is a joyous time for children to dress up in costumes and receive candy from neighbors. However, there is a dark stain on this time in history. The Angola Halloween Massacre, also known as the Three Day War, was a series of horrific events that took place on October 30th and November 1st in 1992. The government party claimed victory in the elections and the political party named as the People Movement for the Liberation of Angola opposed the results. Both sides heightened war rhetoric. As the result of the friction, an estimated 10,000 people were killed mostly of the Ovimbundu and Bakongo ethnic groups, who were pulled from the vehicle and shot to death. Another horrific event that occurred in October was the Carandiru Massacre that took place in Brazil on the 2nd day of October in 1992. The massacre was triggered by a prisoner in the Carandiru Penitentiary in São Paulo, Brazil. This event is considered to be a major violation of human rights in the history of Brazil. The massacre continued until it was finally stopped by the military police that stormed in to take control of the situation. On that day, 84 state and military police officers were present and 102 bullets were shot. The nine guys, who were not shot in the vital parts of the body, got knifed. The cops stated that the prisoners were already carved up and, by the time the guards arrived at the scene of the massacre, it was too late.
