1. Describe Masters management style. Use evidence from the case study to support you answer.
According to the case, it is said that Masters adopts autocratic leadship style to manage the company called Retrotonics. First of all, the definition of autocratic leadership style is that a leadership style that involves making managerial decisions without consulting others (Hickey et al. 2005, pp. 23-7). In addition, this management style is strict and stubborn; therefore, managers are autocratic and concentrate all the power. Finally, Masters as a general manager, makes decisions without considering suggestions from other staff. For instance, Imakito with their staff are increasing stressed due to the decision of Masters, because Masters interfere the department of Imakito.
2. Imagine you are the management consultant referred to in the case study. What management style would you recommend that Masters adopt to manage his different staff members? (i.e., the two department managers, the engineering staff and the production staff). Explain why.
It is suggest that democratic leadership style can solve the problem of Masters. To begin with, the definition of democratic is that a leader that seeks the advice and input from members of the group (Hickey et al. 2005, pp. 27-31). Second, Masters interferes too much in other department. For example, the engineering staff are stressful and cannot achieve the task set by Masters. It is true that Masters is in conflict with the engineering department (Drew 1998, p.1 para 3). Finally,
