I will be discussing the meaning of communication and the importance of communication in this essay. The meaning of communication: the process of exchanging verbal information from person to person from the highest level down to the lowest level. The ability to communicate with your subordinates as well as your peers in the military is very critical. It ensures that important information is being passed on to the personal needing the information to accomplish their mission and the organizations mission. If your not able to communicate well within your section, vital information is not being passed on to the person that needs the information. This could put the entire section or company in a position to not be successful. There are two types of communication that will lead to mission accomplishment. (1. Internal Communication: is the ability to communicate within your section, team, squad or platoon for example. Being able to communicate internal ensures for success at the lowest level. (2. External Communication: this type of communication is very critical, because now you are possibly communicating and passing information to the highest level to include Company, Battalion, and Brigade levels. Effective communication is essential to the success of any organization. Communication is not only important in just the workplace but outside of the workplace as well. The personnel in leadership position need to communicate with their Soldiers as well as their platoon Sgt. The Soldiers have to communicate with their squad leaders as well. The smallest amount of information is always imperative. The Army has only one chain of command. Through this chain of command, leaders issue orders and instructions and convey policies. A healthy chain of command is a two way communications channel. Its members do more than transmit orders; they carry information from within the unit or organization back up to its leaders. They furnish information about how things are developing, notify the leader of problems, and provide requests for clarification and help. A leader must at all times be able to communicate with his or her subordinates. Subordinates as well as leaders have the responsibility to assist in the improvement of that communication whenever possible. Any breaks in the flow of information could be costly in the case of an emergency. The importance of keeping your leadership informed is very critical as a Soldier. It is possible at times that a leader can make errors, while sometimes considered as lack of attention to detail. When it comes to communication, I believe that when more than one individual has knowledge of information regardless of their status the information can be passed on by either of them. It is also important to be able to communicate with leadership because Soldier isssues arise all the time and being able to communicate is vital to helping that Soldier.
