Medical Art
Medieval art is a movement that rose while the Roman Empire fell and the church gained power. Barbarians destroyed many important works of art and architecture during the period of the Dark ages. However Christianity triumphed over paganism. The focus became was on salvation for a better afterlife, nudes were forbidden and art became more acquainted with the soul. Symbolic not realistic, figures meant not all not to remind one of earth but to elevate person thoughts from the earth the realm to the spiritual.
Byzantine art featured very rich colors and heavily outlined figures that appeared flat. Beautiful but dark cathedrals were being built as Christianity was becoming more and more influential. Stained glass windows replaced mosaics to teach the illiterate religion an beautiful, open, Gothic cathedrals began to surge.Ancient Greek art revolved around sculptures of women, warriors, and great architecture. The first few slides have good detail and pay no mind to nudism. In the slide of Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders we are able to see how much their architecture was developed based on the details of the columns. Im also able to deduct that they had great admiration for their army, warriors, and their gods. In Hellenistic art we can see that they developed at least a little love for fabrics as they are now being carved to be part of the sculptures. If there is one thing that I particularly admire of Greek art is how much attention they paid to every detail of the human body. The way they transformed slabs of marble into works of art such as the Venus de Milo is outstanding.
