“The term “mobile code” typically refers to interpreted or executable content that can be downloaded and run on a users workstation.” The main reason for mobile code is that a program can downloaded from a remote server and executed at a users computer. Mobile code provides a more realistic experience than what would normally be stagnant. So, the term mobile code is not the problem its malicious mobile code. Malicious mobile code makes the users system perform task that the user is not aware of. The danger about malicious mobile code is that software from a remote source is being executed on the users system with unknown surety of that particular program running correctly. “The use of mobile code is no longer restricted to web browsers either; as HTML has become the most ubiquitous format for displaying data, many applications have started supporting HTML documents as well. The most common example of this is email. Most commercial email clients now support the rendering of messages in HTML.” The following is where you can see mobile code being implemented: Java Script, VBScript, ActiveX Controls, Java Applets, Built-In Objects and Visual Basic applications. Probably one of the most basic ways to start protecting your system from these malicious mobile codes are your security settings within your Internet and Local Intranet settings. You can go into your custom settings within these two zones and disable, enable or have computer to prompt you before any actions are taken place.
