Strict Parents
Why are my parents so strict? Why are some of my friends parents strict and some arent? I asked my Mom these questions to help me write this paper. My Mom said that there are several reasons she is strict on me. One reason is that she wants to protect me from making mistakes that can harm me for the rest of my life. She also wants to protect me from people who dont have my best interest at heart. She said that when you are young if you are given too much freedom you can get in situations that you arent old enough to handle.
Protecting me from making mistakes that can harm me seems okay but if I dont make mistakes how am I going to learn things? I guess my Mom was talking about life changing mistakes such as not getting a good education so you can take care of yourself in the future. She also has seen so many young people end up with the responsibility of raising a baby. She definitely wants to protect me from this. A baby would definitely change anyones life.
I am sure that there are a lot of people that I would meet who dont have my best interest at heart because they dont even know what is in their own best interest. There are so many young people do alcohol and drugs now. My mom says that kids can easily get it if they want it. My Mom says that if someone is drinking or doing drugs then they always want their “friends” doing the same thing. They think it is cool and so they put pressure on others to join in the fun.
My Mom gives me some freedom but she makes sure that I have rules to follow. She doesnt want me to date until I am 16. Even when I am 16 she will still make me be home early I am sure and she will be strict about whom I can go out with. She says that she doesnt want to give me so much freedom so that I get in situations I am not mature enough to handle. Mom says that everyone has to follow rules and that is part of growing up.
I guess being strict is not all bad. I know my Mom loves me and a lot of the things she does is because she has seen other people make mistakes like having babies, getting on drugs or alcohol, or quitting school. I understand how often these things happen and how much they change a persons life. I see my friends getting to do things I dont get to do and I get mad because I think my Mom doesnt trust me.
