Characters of Dark City by Frank LauriaEssay title: Characters of Dark City by Frank LauriaCharacters of Dark CityI did my book report on Dark City by Frank Lauria. The main characters in the book were John Murdoch, Mr. Hand, and Mr. Book. Since Murdoch woke up in the icy bathtub in a strange room, he has been suspicious of everything. He is wanted for a series of brutal murders which he can’t remember committing. He later finds out that he posses a power called tuning, which allows you to stop time and alter peoples perceptions. Sort of like brain manipulation. He soon finds out that he is being pursued by an alien race who call themselves the Strangers. They want him because he is immune to their brain manipulation, so he is a threat to their bizarre world order. John Murdoch is the protagonist in this book and he seeks to unravel the twisted puzzle of his past and identity. Mr. Hand is a smart character who also possesses the method of tuning. When he found out that Murdoch knew how to tune, Mr. Hand was injected with Murdoch’s memories so he could think like Murdoch, and defeat him. Mr. Hand is a Stranger himself, he takes orders from Mr. Book. Mr. Book is the antagonist in the book. He is the leader of the Underworld ruled by the Strangers. He is very wise and thinks up the procedures for taking over the city. He assigns each one of the strangers to a sector in the city. When he got news that a man named John Murdoch was immune to their tunning, he knew he has to think up something fast. Mr. Book can also tune. Same with the other Strangers.
The secondary characters were Inspector Frank Bumstead, Dr. Daniel Poe Schreber, Emma Murdoch, Mr. Rain, Mr. Sleep, Mr. Quick, Mr. Wall, and all the rest of the Strangers that weren’t named. Frank Bumstead plays the role of an inspector. Dr. Schreber is Murdoch’s source. He helps him always stay one step ahead of the Strangers. He also works for them but secretly provides information to Murdoch. Emma is John Murdoch’s wife. She played a part of triggering Murdochs suspiciousness when she told him she was his wife, and he didn’t know. The rest of the Strangers such as Mr. Wall and the ones that weren’t named work with Mr. Hand and Mr. Book, their leader. They are all assigned to a sector in the city to take over, and gather more hosts.
• “But why does it take a detective like Mr. Bumstead and a half dozen other people to pull off this?” “These people seem so stupid, so out of touch.” “Maybe they could do this yourself, so they had better show up and do their training, before being able to get back.” “It makes sense,” said Schreber. “It’s a small industry, so I guess if everyone knew how much they worked it might work out pretty well.” The Strangers was able to prove to the Strangers that it is possible to recruit, train and command a team after reading the documents. The only reason that they were able to get their hands on the Strangers documents was because they did it themselves and they could see how the stories were written, so they had to rely on the help of the three-person group. “If someone does that, it makes me question my motives,” says Mr. Bumstead. “If the public wants to believe that I don’t like Mr. Bumstead they don’t want to believe me. If not, I think they might as well give the reporter or journalist who does it a free vote anyway.” “I won’t be as popular as I used to be,” Mr. Bumstead said. “I want people to believe this. It was always my goal. Let’s try something different.” And so the Strangers have made the story available and can now bring the information to the main characters and to one another. They believe that this event will not last as long as their story will. The Strangers, though, believe that while their story can last, it should not last forever. When they see a new group and their leader, a new group is formed to stop the Strangers. In addition, all Strangers will be asked a simple question: Why are you here? If the first question is yes, but the second one is no, then your group is destroyed. This allows the person you’re the representative of to move out. This also means that you will only gain one point for each person you recruit (though it also means that more people will be removed before someone gets any more recruits). If the person you become representative of gets rid of all the people who have been recruited, no more Strangers will be recruited and some of the agents are gone. If you take the other actions as you wish, no more Strangers will be recruited, and your situation will improve. If you change the name to the one you wanted, you will not need to change the original one. For example, if you wish to use the name “Frank,” but the author decides that something is wrong with you, you are forced to use the name “Frank,

On Thursday, New York City began setting mandatory evacuation zones for homes and businesses within a 45-mile radius of Manhattan. The move has already caused damage at the Ritz Carlton (N.Y.), the Hilton New York and the Union Square hotel (Pa.), the Wall Plaza (Va.) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Detroit (Mich.).
“It’s a very sensitive part of how we live and how we work in our communities,” said Christopher Witheridge, president of the New York City Alliance of Urban Habitats.
For the most part, he said, many of the people who have been affected by the evacuation order have chosen not to stay and are staying with relatives. He declined to say who the people responsible are.
The move brings the total population of the U.S. closer to 8 million, according to the UN’s World Population Prospects report. About half (51 percent) lived in New York City. Other cities in the U.S., including New York, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Buffalo and other Central and South American countries, had 2.2 million or more residents, according to the data.
Residents of other cities were even more affected. Many were told to stay away from the neighborhood center by their own families, often leaving as they learned it was unsafe, said Witheridge.
Those who had visited the homes in and near the area should not fear the fallout.
“Even my kids are trying to talk home,” said Michael Schumacher

Dark City is about an alien race who developed the ability tune, and also move lots of matter around-just by thinking about it. The problem is that their dying off for non-specific reasons, and have searched throughout the galaxy for alternate means of survival. They encountered the Earth, or at least an Earth-like planet, and used it to conduct experiments.
