Overview of Management-Kudler Fine Foods
Kudler Fine Foods, a gourmet food store was founded by Kathy Kudler in 1998 with the vision to provide customers with a variety of quality products such as bakery, meat and seafood, cheese and dairy, wine, and produce with over 350 fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices from all over the world. Kudler Fine Foods opened its first store at La Jolla, California and within five years of operations expanded to Del Mar in the year 2000 and Encinitas in the year 2003 all stores located in San Diego County, California.
After the opening of her first store at La Jolla, Mrs. Kudler took nine month to break even and finished the year with a profit. Carefully Planning and Strategizing was in place to set Mrs. Kudler’s objectives and develop activities with continuing evaluation and assessment to achieve those objectives and set up any corrective measure to respond to any deviation towards the future goal. I assume that Mrs. Kudler prepared a business plan in order to organizing human, financial, physical, informational, and technical resources and forecast the future of her venture since without a clear picture of the business necessity high levels of risk were present. Mrs. Kudler was an excellent leader who was able to influence her coworkers to work hard to fulfill her vision. She was able to motivate employees form different backgrounds to work well together and accomplish utmost success. Mrs. Kudler established measures of performance controlling, comparing and implementing changes to monitor progress which permitted the expansion of Kudler Food Stores to two new different locations in five years a completely success history. I believe that Mrs. Kudler at the beginning was the only one responsible for managing the whole structure with the help of her administrative assistant. Later she started delegating and empowering her top executives to help her with the daily operations and management of the store.
“The word “technology” can also be used to refer to a collection of techniques. In this context, it is the current state of humanitys knowledge of how to combine resources to produce desired products, to solve problems, fulfill needs, or satisfies wants; it includes technical methods, skills, processes, techniques, tools and raw materials.” “The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible series of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP).” (Wikipedia, 2008). In the case of Kudler Fine Foods technology and the internet were a bless since it was used to create a database with the support from Smith Systems Consulting who installed a comprehensive Retail Enterprise Management System (REMS) to improve its operations management, productivity, efficiency and customers responsiveness. All departments were linked through a Novel 4.11 Server connected to an internal network (intranet). Mrs. Kudler used the internet to reach thousands of customers throughout KFF web page where she advertised the business and its offerings proving images from her products that means a thousands words.
Through the intranet at KFF, all departments and employees were able to communicate with each other and access company information and database for research. Top executives’ information was limited to the decision maker but the database was very extensive for middle level management to make decisions related to the department. Mrs. Kudler was able to benchmark competition using the internet to improve productivity, performance and efficiency. I believe that KFF was using Enterprise resource
