During Choir, My coach, Ms. Cindy, was telling us that we have been selected to be in the musical “Broadway Baby.” We were going to be singing a song from Annie. She wanted us to get started right away and I was so excited. It took us two weeks to work on it, but on the second day, a guy walked in and his name was Mr. Edwards. He didn’t say what he was here for, but he seemed really funny and smart. My teacher said that he is the director of the show and everyone got so excited. As the day went on, she wanted to see who wanted a solo and of course I raised my hand. Ms. Cindy told all of us who had raised their hand to stand up, and one by one we sang a part of the song. As I sang my solo, they were both talking and I got really scared because I thought that I wasn’t gonna get the solo.
Soon, it was the end of the day and it was time to go home. Ms. Cindy came to talk to me and my mom. In my mind, I was so scared because I had no idea what it was about and I thought I had did something wrong and I had no idea what I did.
“Hello Katie. Mrs. Goodwyn. I would like to talk to you about the musical.”
“What about?”
“Katie has been offered the position to play the younger Broadway Baby.”
When I heard those words come out of my teacher’s mouth I was so happy. This was going to be my first solo in an official musical.
Now it was a week before the show and I had just gotten my outfit and I was very pink. In the church, our stage is pretty big and there was a lot I needed to remember. On stage, I had to remember my blocking, where I need to go when I move around on stage. I moved right, left, upstage, downstage, and he kept yelling at me to move up left and I would move up, but really that meant to move back.
