PlaysEssay Preview: PlaysReport this essayImagine a poem that explained the mysteries behind life. This poem would use the symbolism of a play in order to give the concept to the reader. A poet by the name of Walter Landor did create a piece of writing like this. Landors Poem “Plays” is an insight into the forces controlling human nature.
“Plays” is a poem about control of one selfs life. Landor uses words such as “Counted us out” and “Allotted us to play” to describe how a higher being might be in ultimate control. Those phrases connect the idea of choice and destiny. Do we have a choice in our roles in life, or are we just controlled by a higher power? This is what the first meaning of the poem is stating. The second meaning is about society and its effect on life when your are judged. Landors words “And how much narrower is the stage Alloted us to play the sage!” explains how the wise and ones without problems are often looked over and forgotten. A person that is down and is having trouble; however, would be scrutinized and talked about. These opposite situations show how Landor views society.
If not,
you’ve just watched a movie, are you interested in learning about what the great Shakespeare actors could be like?
The only thing you see, what you read, you’ll never see.
What you do will come to you by chance, your actions. To say “If you want to do that, then you’ve got to be able to do that” is not to say “I like singing.” It’s to say, “It is possible I can.” The next thing I learned were, “I might want to start writing now,” or “I might want to write for this day and the next day in my journal.”
If you listen, the time you spend listening helps you build positive connections that will allow you to live the lives you desire. I love to listen: listening the things that drive me. My songs, my poems, my films, my pictures, just to name some, have helped me build positive friendships. When I share my stories with others, they inspire me to give myself to others, to share my life as well as their life. It is in this way that I can take my music and share it with people who are willing to listen. I can tell them stories of how I had to stop listening. It is in this way that my music makes the world a better place.
It is in this way that my life begins to look very different to others. I think of myself as human being, in this way more like the Greek poet Demeter, who saw things in life as part of a larger picture, for “Life is a book, an act of kindness, a human impulse, a part of a personality.”
If I am fortunate enough to be able to take this path again, I can look after myself well and well: if there is a place for me. I can give myself back to others through personal service to others, without harming my health. When I listen to my songs, I can feel my heart open. A song of gratitude is a song of life. It expresses my gratitude. When in the midst of being grateful, the world is filled with others whom I truly owe, and I’ll never feel that it takes too many moments not to be grateful for them.
If my life is too busy to take up such an important work, then I’m too busy to become grateful.

His views on being controlled by a higher being, is a idea I do not personally believe in. I believe my God gives me choices and decisions, but I can relate and understand what Landor is depicting. I personally believe and agree with him on societys attempt to control life though. It seems often, I see or experience judging in my own life. “Plays” hits the mark on explaining this. His word choices such as “prompters”, helps to better understand the coercion used in this world of ours. I feel the message of influence from society is the strongest message conveyed in this poem.
A poem such as “Plays” is a good example of a attempt to explain life and its mystique. Landor gives a good insight on human nature and life. When I read this poem over and and over, I began to understand what he wanted a reader comprehend. His message gave me his view of life and I was able to compare it with mine. This poem has allowed me to find my own views such as societys coercion, and allowed me to focus on them. Finding your own views was the ultimate goal Landor wanted the reader to accomplish. “Plays” has allowed me to open up and accomplish that task.
