Native Americans
First inhabitants of North America. First to be subordinated by Europeans. Huge numbers were wiped out from the superior weaponry of Europeans and the diseases they brought over. They are impoverished people today, especially among reservations.
2.4 million sole Native Americans live in the United States with an additional 1.4 million that are part Native American.
Today many Native Americans find employment through tourism, casinos, and government. Religious custom consist of sacred pipe ceremonies, native incenses, sweat lodges, earth ceremonies, and hymns in native languages.
Many Native Americans maintain their tribal identity. This devotion and dedication is admiring, especially with the consequences that follow. They are still seeking, after all these years, what is theirs and the lands they possess are important assets to them.
African Americans
Native Africans were forced to the United States as slaves. They were viewed as property with no rights. Through the civil rights movement, African Americans are treated equal.
Currently there are roughly 42 million African Americans in the U.S.
Folklore, religion, language, and music are among the most common culture traditions. The main religion for African Americans is protestant.
The survival of African culture persisted despite efforts of slaveholders to replace African tradition.
Hispanics
Spaniards had explored, settled, and claimed land that is now California. In 1844 the United States wanted to expand the lands Mexico owned. In 1848, the U.S. seized the lands now known as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and California.
Hispanics make up 15.8% of the total United States population, or 48.4 million people, forming the second largest ethnic group.
Most Hispanics speak their native language, Spanish and learn English as a second language. Most Hispanics are Catholic, very religious, and family oriented with large families.
I admire the importance of family they hold, the many Mexican traditions that were passed on, their love for food, cooking, and hard work ethics.
Muslims and Arabs
Many Arabs and Muslims immigrated to the U.S. after the 1948 Palestine War. After the 9/11 terrorists
