Primarily, there are multiple ways in which a needs assessment can be performed. The information can be search about the community and relevant nonprofit organizations that have are dealing with similar situations. An actual survey might be conducted to attract main focus groups through telephone calls, Internet, and community leaders. A SWOT analysis is often used as well as SPACE analysis to make assessments. The determining factor on which assessment to use would be to underline whether or not the nonprofit organization is needed. There has to be reassurance that the potential success is mandated by making sure the need exists and that they are able to be fulfilled.
Nonprofit organizations would not benefit from using SPACE analysis. Nonprofit organizations are primarily focused on assessing the various needs of their community. For profit organizations would benefit because this assessment analyzes dimensions that address financial capabilities and strengths within the industry as something positive (Simister, 2011). Thus, showing the weaknesses as competitive advantages and environmental stability.
A health needs assessment is now known to enhance the development and structure of coherent efforts to help understand what the needs of a local population are. In the earlier years it was notated that medical officials were given the responsibility to address the needs of their community. In todays era, the assessments are related to health needs based upon death ratios and variances in different populations (BMJ, 1998). The assessment was often used to formulate a variety of health care resources.
It is dominant now that health needs assessments are traditionally conducted by public health professionals at their local facilities. All of the health needs should be analyzed and made available to all health professionals. Hospitals and primary care staff has to strive at developing services that connect to the needs of their local populations. It is inevitable to combine needs assessment and make it relevant with personal knowledge of the patients needs.
However, the assessment of health needs is not conclusive to just listening to the patients or depending on personal experience to accomplish the matter. The method is strategically designed to meet the health needs that have not been met and make changes to help meet these needs (BMJ, 1998). It requires a combined effort to determining the priorities such as cost effectiveness and patients perspectives. This approach has to be on neutral terms and show balance towards clinical, ethical, and economic considerations of need. Then it has to be determined if this can be accomplished what can be done to get things accomplished and is there enough money to support the need.
Health needs assessment is not just about measuring bad health, but rather than finding something to cure it. Adding a capacity to benefit launches significance to health discussions.
