In todays business world we could see some organizations exhibiting indicators of success and some other organizations exhibiting indicators of failures. Indicators of failures can be addressed as decreasing profits, decreasing market share, employee unrest, financial instability etc. Tallees Advertising (Pvt) Ltd. was one such firm that had been in the business for over 5 years and had established a name among many corporate firms in handling their corporate advertising works, which was helped by a hardworking and committed staff. Recently, the researcher observed a declining of sales and profits and gradually loosing the market share. At the same time the researcher observed differing patterns of employee behaviors which had accompanied with lack of commitment in achieving organizational objectives and negligence of work. Further studies done by the researcher revealed that the employees had confined to an adaptive mechanism. This was where the work withdrawal was addressed which had resulted as a consequence of job dissatisfaction.
The study examined the causes for the prevailing work withdrawal behaviors among the employees. Work withdrawal comprises behaviors intended to provide more temporary escape from work such as arriving late or leaving work early, being absent, minimize time spent on task, loafing while at work etc. The researcher identified eight factors as those affecting work withdrawal behaviors. The extent of the employees satisfaction in relation to the identified factors were analyzed based on a set of 40 attributes in relation to the main factor. The responses of the employees were collected by administering a questionnaire where the employees were requested to select their level of agreement based on a 5-point Likert scale. By compiling the scores for the eight factors, it became apparent which factors were the main sources of work withdrawal and the overall satisfaction of the employees. Results of this study had offered recommendations considering implementing career development programmes in the firm in efforts to enhance job satisfaction and reduce possible turnover in the future. The underlying message in this research project showed that employers presumably have more ability to change work place causes of adaptive behaviors exhibited by employees.
