Dear Johannesburg Press,
This beloved country will cry no longer. After hearing Mandela’s speech I was uplifted with hope, confidence and honor.
Promises are meant to be broken, but I believe Mandela’s promises will come true. While he spoke, his face would harden with intensity, meaning, and no hesitation. Mandela’s presence was simply uplifting. His powerful words will always ring though my mind. “ Each time one of us touches the soil of this land, we feel a sense of personal renewal.” I envy and fathom his ability to revive hope into an entire nation. A nation of people whom before, knew only hatred and fear toward their counterparts. A nation working toward an equal and peaceful future.
My mind can not comprehend the confidence South Africans have in Nelson Mandela; how one nation can rally behind one person. “ We understand it still that there is no easy road to freedom.” Mandela is aware the journey will not come easily. The goals of peace, equality and justice are on our doorstep; we must work as one to reach out and grab them.
“ The sun shall never set on so glorious a human achievement!” Mandela once again has found a way to dig deep in South African hearts. I am honored to call myself a South African, and a back South African as well. Becoming a democracy, having inalienable rights, and diminishing the apartheid, while Mandela is our spokesperson; peace is our only option.
Never again will this country tear itself apart, form the inside out. Our generation is carrying the burden of our past. Mandela will assemble us as one nation, one people, as South Africans.
