The Nepal QuakeOur video clip is about the recent earthquake that took place in Nepal and its effects on Nature. We know how an earthquake occurs. If we explain it in simple terms, it is the vibration that shake up the earth when two tectonic plates collide. But I would like to focus mainly on the energy that is released during the earthquake. For this the perfect example would be the earthquake that occurred recently in Nepal.April 25¸ 2015, at around 11.54 am, the world saw one of the greatest natural calamities till date. A massive earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook Nepal which took the lives of around 7000 people. Looking at it from the scientific point of view this earthquake released a tremendous amount of energy that it had been storing since the last earthquake in 1934. But an alarming point has hit me now. The recent earthquake could not release all the energy stored (as was shown in the Discovery documentary). A major portion of the fault line (around 42%) is still under stress. This is the required scientific proof that a big earthquake is yet to come. But we do not know how, when and where it is going to occur.  So the best way would be to prevent oneself.  People should now focus on low cost innovative ideas. If we can build buildings where we have interlocking brick technology, suspension in the basements, they can absorb the shock waves to a great extent. Furthermore we can try to utilize the energy that is released during an earthquake like building turbines for generating electricity in the tsunami prone areas.Ours is the age of Science and technology. Everything seems possible in the 21st century. All we have to is focus. Natural calamities and hence evolution in one sense is unstoppable.
