Speech – Margaret Thatcher: A Conversation with Denis
Speech – Margaret ThatcherA Conversation With DenisApril 1, 2013 – somewhere in London – a week before my deathUH! Hello – where did all your fresh little faces come from? I hope you will all grow up to be conservative Republicans!DenisIt won’t be long now; I can feel the difference; the dark lights of my recent mind are making way for a brighter light. I can feel your presence – I have missed you, you know; almost 10 years – you were my rock – my one true advisor. Like the deep foundation of a modern building; you supported me; gave me strength; allowed me to see through the noise; that clarity defined me; uncompromising; causing change; make lives better for people in spite of their complaints. The life of a Prime Minister can be lonely. “But with you there I was never alone. What a man. What a husband. What a friend.”We had a love affair you know; Oh! not one of those tawdry things that you see today – typical of that new age Labour Party or movie stars in America – with public displays of affection and handholding; ours was built on mutual respect and a stoic public face; really a British Protestant love affair.Don’t even get me started on the behavior of those Royals – they make those Labour Party idiots look decent – I blame the parents you know – but the Queen is busy too with affairs of the realm – she’s too boring to have those other affairs unlike her children. Those children are a disgrace and to think that Charles will one day be king; Denis – God help us all. You know I headed off those  rumors that I didn’t get along with the Queen (though we had our differences) by writing: “I always found the Queens attitude towards the work of the Government absolutely correct stories of clashes between two powerful women were just too good not to make up.”
Are you there Denis? I feel you closer – we will be together soon – I know it. Maybe there is politics in heaven – we can get the original team together again – they were the best – hopefully God sent the communists and Labour to hell – we could have one party rule (laugh). We fought some battles here on earth you and I – achieved greatness and future generations will speak well of us even if they don’t today. Early Political CareerI love to journey back to those glory days – will you take a trip with me now Dennis – like a campaign ride on those buses in Dartford in 1950 all decked out in the Union Jack when we went door to door. We didn’t have much of a chance in that district – the people were foolishly Labour – but we did reduce their majority and we fell in love. I don’t remember much about the wedding – you were very kind to me and allowed me to go to law school. I did enjoy the ice cream business but the law was a better grounding for politics. There was always the danger of being called the Cherry Garcia Prime Minister – Iron Lady is so much more powerful (laugh).
