Our employees are our most valuable asset to survive and compete, the development of these assets means the development to our organization. By having the employee development programs, the company would have higher retention rates, lower recruiting and training costs for the new recruits, and have higher commitment and loyalty from our employees to the organization. The reduction in these costs would allow for further development for current employees. The costs of recruiting employees within the organization are ranging from $5,000 for unskilled first line employees, to $35,000 for higher position within the organization with more experience.
By providing employee development programs, we need to shift to a knowledge-based approach of training and economy. The shift from a skill-based economy to knowledge based economy would allow higher mobility for the employees within the organization and higher innovation and creativity. This would future development within the organization and transformation as business and technology changes. This would help us reduce obsolete skills and depend more on the people and their knowledge and have them more adaptive. Also, having a knowledge based development programs would help the company fill the gaps as employees are more mobile. The relationship between performance and development is crucial. Recent research supports that development programs for employees help organizations move forward and compete within the market. The direct relationship is the application of the training programs on the job. Research and statistics also state that there is a good relationship between development and performance through job satisfaction for employees, retention, and loyalty to the company. These development programs would drive our business strategy as people-based rather than a product-based or technology-based as these could get obsolete over time. Having adaptive workforce would let us have a competitive advantage to change within the market and change the market as our workforce would be more innovative and creative.
