Inventory management currently being handled at Riordan manufacturing uses a dated process. The room for human error is high due to the current inventory processes which involve printing inventory checks which are then handed to an inventory clerk who organizes the data entries. The process is overly long and unnecessary if the new setup is integrated it will increase efficiency dramatically. I believe the best way to update this process is implementing a new system to scan barcodes and well as a new vendor managed inventory. The benefits to this update will be significant. The increase in inventory management efficiency will increase leading to less human error, the movement speed of inventory, reduction of being overstocked or not stocked enough and fully automated inventory tracking that will follow the raw materials from receipt to shipment of products. This update will also help supply chain command by increasing its efficency and lowering the process time to completion. This will help to meet Riordans goals of increasing total revenue while shortening labor costs leading to better stability overall. The human error will minimize so lost income will also be minimized. The speed of data entry will increase also which allows the employees to focus on other things more important and shortening the processing time. The outline I have detailed will introduce barcode scanning, and automated inventory management as well as a VMI system that will all combine to provide a significant increase to output, efficiency and overall effectiveness. Implementing these processes from the ground up at all of Riordans different locations will have to be required to get the most from this new upgrade. In the new part of my outline I will highlight the steps involved to implementing this new process and what will be required.
Starting with the first step to this new implementation we will uncover the requirements for the software, members of the team as well as hardware. The first thing I will detail is what the project team will consist of. Testers from human resources, a project manager, and four IT technicians as well three programmers will all be required to move the project along. Each team member will play a vital role in this project. The project managers job is to determine project requirements for software and hardware as well detailing each phase of the project. Next are the programmers which will handle the implementation of the software for installation and tailoring it to the needs of the company. IT technicians will then implement the new software and configure the hardware for installation within human resources as well networking the computers together. Next are the IT testers who will essentially test all aspects of the new systems and track any problems and glitches that they come across to the project manager which will coordinate with the rest of the team. Errors reported during the testing phase will have to be resolved by the whole team so it can be adjusted and tested again to meet satisfactory performance. The document of completion can only be sign once every process is completed to the recommended specifications so that the project can meet deadline and work well for the company. Hardware requirements will be higher than what is currently in place to meet the needs of the new software. Upgrades the workstations will be required that will support barcode scanners, readers, new software as well new printers to integrate with the new system. Networking will be required in the human resources so that each computer can access the intranet of the company and keep in communication with each other. Upgrades to the current system in place may be required to improve wiring and networking solutions introduced with the new system.
The new barcode scanning system will offer a huge
