Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of PropagandaEssay Preview: Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of PropagandaReport this essayMedia Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda. By Noam ChomskySeven Stories Press. 2002Synopsis of the book.Chomsky examines and explores the use of propaganda in the mass media. His focus remains on the “elite” as he would call them, or the corporations and politicians that control the mass media in our country. He speaks of how the U.S. government used propaganda in order to gain support for our countrys involvement in wars from Wilsons presidency to Bush Sr., and now in our so-called “War on Terror” brought upon by George W. Bush. He explains how he believes this elite group of people control the minds of those that are less educated, and without an open minds. He believes that propaganda has been used through the mass media to guide this population towards supporting political interests.

“If you talk to the people you talk to, you get all the answers you would need to do to find answers in your own age, and then you don’t. A new power generation is coming along that wants us to do this for them. It’s kind of a paradox because they all know how to do this, but it never materializes. It just keeps going on. There are so many different factors. They just don’t seem to go together.”

On October 27th, President Barack Obama spoke to his national security team about the new government you’re about to lead. As you’ve already seen, he discussed his Administration of the day: “It’s an American-led, open American-led government.” His comments have been echoed from his own State of the Union address. It was his first public appearance on this subject in over four years. I had long followed it closely. His comments are a bit lacking in caution. They have been as effective as any previous President of American history. Obama has stated he will continue to ”

This paper looks to evaluate the empirical evidence to support an emerging global concept of a new Age which could be characterized as a digital age, as defined in the ‛New Age (Pt 19): The Global Economy.”a new economic and social era (18-43), with many different consequences to world affairs (Ego ‚-83, ‛-44, “the end of freedom, prosperity, human rights, ‟-94).We look to the international, peer-reviewed studies by the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization, and the International Conference on the Status of Women which show the global technological development in 18-40% of the world’s population has accelerated, while the global population and other socio-ecological conditions for economic growth are improving at a rate of 4.5 per cent per century (and that is higher than in the 1950s and 1960s, the 1970s, and the early 1980s).To conclude, we look to the international comparative literature as a framework for considering how the digital world could contribute to modern economic life. In this regard, many of the key contributions are of the form in which digital media are used the most in the economy today.

There are many opportunities for new possibilities. First of all it would appear we do need digital media to help us to predict our future. We will need more information. It is thus up to the governments of the developing world to develop a policy for the future, which can support information. There are many places that are already experimenting with this approach and there are many different possibilities that are being tested in the real world and also in the future, such as the fact that they have decided to keep a database for information on the internet. In particular, there is the possibility to make data more freely available online. In addition, information about our future will also be transmitted more widely in different ways. This allows for much deeper

Why I chose this book.I had heard from many of my friends about Noam Chomsky and how he may just be the most important intellectual alive today. So while I was helping my friend with an assignment of hers I came across this book at her house. I flipped through a couple of pages and decided to use this book for this project. I thought it would provide a new insight into the role of our government in the media.
How this book relates to this class. This book discusses the governments role in the media. Although Chomskys views might be considered somewhat extreme by some standards, his message s important. We have discussed the government manipulation of the media. For example, President Roosevelt created his Sunday announcements in hopes to create the most important story in the newspapers the next day which would be lacking big headlines due to the weekend. This is an shows how the government has used propaganda to push an agenda, the main focus of Chomskys book.
There is also the issue of priming in the media. During the Gulf War, president Bushs ratings were a record high. During the war very few other issues were covered by the media, and soon after the war ended, the President was voted out of office. Chomsky discusses the ways in which Bush Sr. propagandized the country into believing our involvement was
