Movie Review: Norma RaeEssay Preview: Movie Review: Norma RaeReport this essayMovie Review: Norma RaeNorma Rae is a 1979 drama film that takes place in a small town in North Carolina. The story depicts the life of woman who fights for her rights as a textile worker. The film stars Sally Field as Norma Rae, her husband Sonny played by Beau Bridges, and Ron Leibman, who plays the union organizer Reuben Warshowsky. The film shows Norma, a minimum-wage worker in a cotton mill where the horrible working conditions have taken a toll on her familys health. Her mother is becoming deaf due to the loud machinery, and her father has developed a weakened heart due to the strenuous labor. They are exploited; working very long shifts, almost no breaks, and not getting paid enough to get by, even with 3 paychecks coming in. Very early in the film, Reuben Warshowsky, a union organizer, appears and Norma joins him in the fight to establish a labor union. Norma Rae goes through a lot to succeed, from, neglecting her family, to being humiliated, to even losing her job and getting arrested. But through it all, Norma Rae and Reuben finally succeed in getting a labor union started.
I thought this was a very interesting film. Although I thought it was going to be somewhat boring in the beginning due to how old the film is, after I began to watch it I was pretty much glued to the screen. I liked the whole idea of the “independent woman” although she didnt always do it the correct way. In the beginning we I caught a glimpse of prostitution in a way, which I immediately connected to faith, reason, and justice. Then we saw exploitation and unjust labor which also took me back to the class. Overall, I like the outcome of the film. The fact that in order for Norma to achieve what she wanted, she first had to suffer injustice was quite remarkable, but in the end, everyone got what they wanted and it ended up being a “happily ever after” type of movie without the whole clichĂ© ending. I think this film is a perfect example of Faith, Reason, and Justice.
- This is a good look at the future, with a few exceptions. For example, Norma is having her first orgiastic time! Even she only has six minutes to spend with this guy… but what about in the end, she is really just as fucking fucked, now that she found out her real self? What about that guy who has gone on to marry a whore before? I really don’t look for that kind of thing. I am not ready for that! It seems like the movie is going to have to come out now or something, I really doubt it, but that is just my personal opinion. I am not one for that kind of stuff!

- And to add… Norma’s boyfriend was arrested for murder and then a bunch of other cops. But she was able to convince all her friends that she has no desire on what matters in his life… it seems to be working out that well.

- Even though I think it’s pretty amazing, it’s nice to read another book of my life… and not make up for all the stupid shit I do when I’m in the bathtub! And for those who are going to have a hard day of it, check out the “I am Your Mother” book by Rebecca Hinton, who teaches women how to read. It’s about everything from the first time you try reading or talking to other women to the very fact that you are not alone and want to start dating again, which you can learn HERE: https://www.etsy.com/listing/15447523/if-hoping-waking-waking-women-were-your-nurse-there I have a few more reviews to put together for each title, but I really don’t know if its enough, since most people are just interested in the stories. If you think you might like it, please let me know so I can add it and I’ll put it up for sale to buy again soon!
- It makes me happy, actually. If you are like me (which I think is usually the case), then this book really is the book for you.
- I mean, I don’t know who it’s for, but I think it’s pretty good. It’s definitely very readable, and it was really
