North Korea, which is well known for its dictatorial and hereditary regime, has been struggling with numerous problems such as human rights, famine, child abuse, nuclear weapons and so on. Especially, nuclear weapon and their provocations for the foreign assistance have been serious problems for decades. As a student from South Korea, I have always been interested in our nations destiny and its political issues.
Hence, the article I read, from The Korea Herald, titled, “US concerned about North Koreas starving people: State Department” was more touching than any other political articles. According to the article, for the sake of innocent but starving North Korean people under the dictatorship, the US is concerned and worried whether to assist North Korea financially or not. The main reason why the US is hesitating is because their assistance would be very likely to be misused. Even though the US financially supports North Korea to save the starving people, North Korean government would spend the money to expand their military power. This is an obvious threat to global peace.
In contrast, if the US does not help but ignore the dying people in North Korea, their attitude becomes nothing more than an immoral countermeasure to the problem. Considering the fact that the number of North Koreans who are trying to escape is increasing, Americas stance on North Korean poverty issue is extremely disappointing. Long story short, America is in an awkward situation in terms of international politics.
I believe the US should actively participate in North Korean famine and nuclear issues. In this process, building cooperative relationships with neighborhood countries are essential, such as, China and South Korea. This is because saving North Koreans cant be achieved without the help of the two countries; China and South Korea. In order to do so, first of all, the exact study of North Korea should be done. For example, knowing their leader and their government, the formation and the characteristics of the socialistic party and its role in North Korea, the division of social class, and most importantly, knowing exactly whos suffering and even willing to take the risk of death to escape from North Korea and so on.
Secondly, diverse way to communicate with North Korea should be made. This also requires the help of many countries that are also supporting Americas humanitarian intervention. Delivering the concrete message and understanding North Korean governments message correctly is the most important task. Moreover, interactive communication must be achieved, never a one way command, forcing North Korea to follow the US.
Finally, the international attention from every global citizen is desperately needed. Alerting the people living on Earth that there are some people, who are killed every second, because of the brutal and irresponsible dictator
