Florence, Italy
Florence can be considered by many people as the birth place of the Renaissance. It is known especially for its art and architecture and more generally its cultural heritage. Florence, Italy is located in northern Italy along the Arno River. For a long while, it was ruled by the powerful Medici family, and was greatly considered to be the jewel of the renascence.
The Renaissances new ideas and creativeness started in Italy then spread to the rest of Europe. This time time period lasted about three hundred years from 1300 to 1600. Many trade routes that had developed over time that passed through northern Europe. As a result, many new urban centers started to rise up. One of then was Florence. With its 120,00 people, ideas new and old began to spread rapidly
Florence gained its importance through its strong banking and clothing production. The banking brought Florence its great wealth, which the city would use to support the rising arts. Many notable artists and writers lived and worked in the extravagant city. This was all thanks to the Medici family, which was the current ruler during the Renaissance. They, along with other wealthy families, became patrons of the arts. They encouraged the artist to be creative and allowed them to work full-time on their wondrous masterpieces.
My memorial wasnt the most extravagant, but it was based solely on the greatness and impact the city of Florence had on Europe. It was made within a small, red covered box with the shining gold word Florence written neatly on top. Four glittering poles were used to hold up the floating lid. Inside was two layered back to back images from Florences coat of arms. In my mind the monument would tower above the people to really show the great impact that the city of Florence had on the Renaissance, Europe, and America.
A memorial really should be made no matter what it looks like. Because no matter what any one says, Florence, Italy changed the way people accept and appreciate art. It changed history. Without Florence the Renaissance might not have even had such an impact on the world. Without Florence, the Renaissance might not have begun at all.
