Euthanasia: life or death
Should people have the choice to end their own life? “Euthanasia: the intentional
killing by act or omission of a dependant human being for his or her alleged belief,”
(www.euthanasia.com). An extensive issue that has been debated numerous times in
many parts of the world over the past few years is “allowing doctors to assist patients
who want to commit suicide”. Euthanasia has already been legalized in the Netherlands,
Belgium, and a few parts of the United States of America. These countries have different
points of views than several other countries. Euthanasia should not be legalized for a
number of reasons. Euthanasia should not be legalized because it could lead to
involuntary euthanasia, people who want to commit suicide are looking for an easy way out and It could become the only type of legal medical treatment available to patients who are less fortunate, disabled, terminally ill and/or even old.
To begin, Euthanasia should not be legalized because it could lead to involuntary
euthanasia. This usually happens with terminally ill patients or elder people. The patients are forced to choose this horrible action because of the pressures of their family and loved ones. Family members are usually the ones influencing the patients decision into euthanasia for personal gains like wealth inheritance. There is no way you can be really sure if the decision towards medical euthanasia is voluntary or forced by others.
Another reason is that some people may want to go this route to end their own lives my “medical suicide”. This is commonly used by chronically ill patients who find a shocking diagnosis and decide they want to end their own life then to live and suffer. This can also occur as well because doctors giving the patient the option to live or die with euthanasia.
Lastly, it could potentially become the only type of legal medical treatment available to patients who are less fortunate, disabled, terminally ill and/or even old. This could happen because of the tests that are performed for cures and the amount of time they spend on the illness that they have is very costly. So it would cost them next to nothing to just kill them by euthanizing the patient. Same goes for the elderly. It would be a lot easier to put them down like dogs than to actually assist them till natural death.
Unfortunately, there are countries and some states in the U.S that allow such immoral behavior. I strongly disagree with the entire thing and would like to see it be banned.
