Advances in Information TechnologyAdvances in Information Technology PaperDo Not Call Implementation Act of 2003On February 22, 2003 the Do Not Call act was introduced to the House of Representatives as a form of protection of integrity of the citizens of the United States. This act was instituted to enable the Federal Trade Commission, or FTC to be able to regulate and enforce laws governing the Telemarketing Industry specifically when they are allowed to call or not to call.
The Do Not Call Registry was put together with the FTC was established so that commercial telemarketing companies are not allowed to call you if you have registered your number with them. This reduces the number of unwanted calls to your home or cell phone. With the use of new technology telemarketers are still able to get thru using systems such as the automated calling features. This is a list of numbers that telemarketing companies dials automatically and when someone picks up that is when the telemarketers will pick up and proceed to solicit business from you. For people with caller ID you will see such things as the state the call is originating from and even the number but, when you try to call the number back it is a no response line.
