A spit is a narrow ridge of sand or shingle. One end out in to sea and the other is connected to the land. A spit is formed through the movement of beach material over long periods of time by wave action.
The town that is being affected is Menlo valuable farmland and some houses and some roads have being eroded away. The council have put in large boulders to stop the erosion .
