Every morning as I head to the train station in my Moms car, I pass the tree within the town circle. This two hundred foot tall giant is more than just any other oxygen barring, environmentalist protected plant though. This tree is significant in more ways than one, and its value surpasses that of just humans needs. This tree, named Old Sturdy has been living in the small town of Buchanan before the town was established, dating back over one century ago. The giant has arms which bare a flurry of healthy leaves and flowers. Rich in color and scent Old Sturdy shows no sign of fading aside from a minor flesh wound where its sticky blood oozes from its body. Old Sturdy has seen its days, from being a former tree house which is evident from the nails that still penetrate into its trunk, to its use as a place of shade on the benches which lay under its canopy. Old Sturdy tells us many stories from the wear on its branches where children have played and frolicked or from the burnt bark which indicates a survivor of a nearby fire. The tree has proven to be more than just a plant, becoming the most common meeting spot in town. Sometimes you need to wonder how a tree like that started off. Obviously that story cannot be told first hand anymore, seeing that the tree is the oldest living entity in the town. But it is a point of interest, whether it started out as a small tree which grew from a lost seed, or was the tree planted there with a purpose in mind. Did it have a meaning or was it a surprise that this wonder has become one of the oldest and mightiest organic objects in the small town .Thats a question that will be hard to determine, but however you look at it the town circle has found its roots around Old Sturdy.
