China Population Policy
Population control is something many nations have to consider in some point in time. If populations keep rising, there won’t be enough resources to sustain everyone. China is a good example of a country who has had to do something about their rapidly increasing population. They resorted in implementing a one-child policy. Each couple is only allowed to have one child. Those with one child get many privileges while penalties are given to those who have more than one. China should not be imposing the one-child policy it has implication such as the only child being expected to acquire the little emperor syndrome, having the burden of taking care of two parents and four grandparents and women forced to have abortions and are being kidnapped. On the other hand many Chinese agree that this policy should not be put out of practice because it has been proven that is has lowered the birth rate and population.
Because the population has dropped and there are more “only child” households, this has caused problems that cannot be fixed in the near future. Being an only child in a family allows for extreme spoiling. Children grow up with attention and resources being directed to them with no understanding of the word “share” (Rhee, Edusblog). Children grow up to be selfish and with a lack of communication skills due to the fact that there are no siblings with which they can practice speech. Another problem is that when this only child grows up, he has two parents and four grandparents to take care of. This puts a lot of stress and responsibility on the only child who doesn’t have the capacity to take care of so many people. In result, the older generation depends on pension from the government and end up having no one to take care of them. If they had a bigger family, the older generation would not have to worry about surviving but would have a whole neighborhood to take care of them. This also imposes a problem on the economy as the government has to supply the needs of more and more older people (Rhee, Edusblog).
One of the most unjust actions of the Chinese government is the action of forcing women to have abortions and committing infanticide. They face severe mental and physical pain. The Chinese people
