History tells us stories of success and failure; if we forget about the losers in history then we have nothing to teach us about the essentials of how to achieve success and the things we need to be cautious of to avoid failure. In some opinions Hitler can be considered as a winner; he achieved the common goals of Germany and came the closest any man has come to complete genocide; he sustained his absolute power over Germany for an extended period of time. Under the philosophy of Machiavelli; Hitler was successful in his domination therefore a good leader. The only criticism that Machiavelli might have for Hitler is his inability to uphold respect amongst his henchmen. One of Hitlers improvements that enhanced peoples perception of Hitler as a political leader was his successful uprising of the German economy that had been suffering from a depression. Hitlers political terminology led to a one party system in which the Nazis were in complete supremacy. The way in which Hitler came about his power could have him labelled as a political genius, the many tactful steps he took to inherit complete power are worthy of recognition.

Critics would label Hitler as a monster. He manipulated people to get what he wanted and had but only his own interest at heart. His war monger about “Anti Semitism” led to the slaughter of millions of Jews in the holocaust, the question of his reasoning for such a dramatic attack on an innocent race still lies in the hearts of millions of curious individuals. E.J Cummings once wrote “what a frightening thing is the human; a mass of gages and dials and registers and we can read only a few, and those perhaps not accurately.” Anyone who reads the speeches, writings and reported conversations of Hitler is shocked at his ignorance, at his ability to describe fantasies as if they really existed, and above all at his power to persuade others of the truth of the most enormous lies.

Otto Strasser, one of his supporters who became an opponent, wrote of him: “I have been asked many times what is the secret of Hitlers extraordinary power as a speaker. I can only attribute it to his uncanny intuition, which infallibly diagnoses the ill from which his audience is suffering. If he tries to bolster up his argument with theories or quotations from books he has only imperfectly understood, he scarcely rises above a very poor mediocrity. But let him throw away his crutches and step out boldly, speaking as the spirit moves him, and he is promptly transformed into one of the greatest speakers of the century” This comment covers the critics view on Hitler to the full extent; he was a liar at best.
