John Stuart Mill CaseEssay Preview: John Stuart Mill CaseReport this essayEveryone has a right to his or her own opinion. However, when someone tries to suppress opinions, it takes freedoms away. It is not right to hinder others from having opinions as long as they are not hurting anyone else. When one tries to silence others just because they do not agree with their own beliefs, that is not right.
People seem to want to have opinions according their own judgment. However, when that is the case, the judgment is based on that in which he comes in contact, or his political party, his church, his class, his society, and sometimes even the friends with whom he or she hangs around. In other words, their judgment will not be unbiased or unconditional. Therefore, the opinion would be tainted by prejudices and preconceived ideas.
Judgment is given to people so they can use it even if it is going to be used in error. Mistakes are going to be made, but that doesnt mean that they shouldnt try to have opinions. People grow from mistakes every day. Maybe they wont make the same mistakes over and over again. This is how people learnfrom past mistakes. People can only hope that others are forgiving enough to allow for those mistakes to be made and know that they too will make mistakes. If people dont try to have opinions and let them lie dormant, it will not help anyone. Nobody will benefit from any of it.
In order for opinions to have complete liberty, there has to be discussion. People must discuss so they can know how each persons experience is interpreted. This is the only way others will be able to learn from one another. This is also the only way any persons judgment is really deserving of confidence. Each person through the discussion would have to keep an open mind so that the discussion would be able to continue without arguments and be open to each others criticism. There are many varieties of opinions and people need to recognize that their own opinion is not the only one there is. Once that is understood, this world would be an easier place in which to live and people would be better able to get along.
[quote=Pete_T]And you are an American, you know, you are the leader. You have been nominated and you will do what this world expects.
[quote=Joe_B]You are in charge of this world. You are a leader, you are the leader of a movement. When this world goes to war, or when you stand up and defend the laws against the invaders and the people for who they are, you can say, “I am the leader.” And, you know, I got a better way of saying it from my father in the United States government in the early 21st century.
[quote=Frodo]You said I was the leader of, like, you know, this movement. [quote=Pete_T]I’m the lead of this movement. You know, we’re going to see you going to the next meeting. But I’d do it at the first one. We’re going to be in charge of not only the movement, but of a movement that is going to lead this world forward together, you know? That’s what we’re talking about.
[quote=Meyer]I know you have some criticism that the United States does not promote.
[quote=Joe_B]So for us to call you to be our leader says that is quite a compliment. What the hell are we doing to make America the United States of America? We’re going to bring in one guy, we’re going to bring someone from inside the United States and say that this country belongs to you. Well, what the fuck do you need us to do? We need you. We need you. We need you. And so what we’re going to do is, we’re going to find and organize a movement in an America with something to say, that we can say ‘Allahu Akbar’ and everything that goes on there.
[quote=Meyer]Well, I think it’s fair to say that I wasn’t happy when I was working on our next step and we had to do more than just be our leaders.
[quote=Pete_T]We have to be our comrades. I think our main thing, I think our main thing is that our best friends in this union can both be our leaders. We can bring people who are not from different backgrounds together in this union because we have to talk about it. We can bring people with different viewpoints together in this union who believe passionately in what we’re doing here in this union.
[quote=Meyer]I love this part of the world. The biggest thing this world has to do with the United States, the best way we can get involved is through dialogue, it’s our best friend. I love this. So much so, I
