Group Project Reflection
We just finished our first group research project this Tuesday. Our topic is Greek migrants group, which decided by all members during the first group meeting. The original research content included the history of immigration, current situation and cultural contributions. Then considering the long history, we divided this part into two sections based on timeline. Therefore, each of our members could choose one area and search the specific information.
However, I found it quite hard for us to start the process and fulfill the tasks we planned in former meeting. It was not only because there were some other assignments needed to be done at the same time, but also for the uncertain stages in our plan, which means that we were even not sure what work should be accomplished step by step. To be honest, we spent too much time in looking for the literature, reading, taking notes and selecting information. Though the usage of library database taught by teachers is fairly useful, it is not easy to find extremely relevant sources of reference. We intended to search as much as we can instead of just focus on our own responsibilities, exchange information when we met next time and evaluated them together so that the most reliable sources were remained. When we finished this, there was less time for report writing.
Another problem occurred in the writing process. Each of us should write our own area but the result showed that someone could not write enough words because there was little source for the data of present situation of Greeks in Australia, and this part had to be deleted at last. On the other hand, someone wrote more words than the requirement, otherwise the history cannot be explained clearly. Thus, after combining all parts and adding the introduction and conclusion into the report draft, we knew that the word count was definitely unacceptable. Besides, there were also problems in paraphrasing, grammar and different writing styles. Fortunately,
