In question one it asks me, how do LANs differ from MANs, WANs, and BNs? It also asks to compare and contrast each pair of network types. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) that is somewher3e in between WAN and LAN networks. They can spread over a city or two and connect smaller offices with LAN between them. LAN (Local Area Networks) is found in every type of company, office, and home. These are small networks compared to WANs. They are much faster, cheaper and easier to maintain in any situation that may occur. WANs (Wide Area Network) is used to describe large scale networks that extend across larger areas such as cities and even countries around the globe. BNs (Backbone Networks) provide a path for exchange information between different types of LAN. Using a backbone network it can bring together diverse networks in the same buildings, different buildings such as campus in a campus environment, and over wide areas.
Comparing and contrasting the each pair of network types conclude that each network uses its own set of protocols, so the network can ensure that they operate in the best way without any problems. The protocols are very important and dependable on the type of network that is in use. For example using the LAN network it runs through the Ethernet Protocol, which allows local nodes to communicate between eachother.
In question four it asked me to compare and contrast unicast, broadcast, and multicast messages. Unicast is a packet that is sent from host to host, the communication is sent from one single to host to another single host. A unicast has only one device that is transmitting the message intended for on receiver. Broadcast is also has a single device but it transmit its messages to all other devices in a given address range. The broadcast could reach all hosts on all subnets. Broadcast has the host/subnet portion of the address set to all ones. Finally the multicast message is a special protocol for use with IP. Multicast enables single devices to communicate with a certain group of hosts, not defined by any standard IP addresses and mask combination. A special group of addresses is used for multicast messages.
Comparing and contrasting unicast, multicast, and broadcasting, there similarities both uses a single device to transmit there messages. The difference between unicast and broadcast is unicast transmit there messages intended for the receiver. Whereas broadcast transmit there massage to all other devices given in an address range. Comparing multicast to all is a big difference because multicast enables single devices.
