Anemia (ah-NEE-mee-ah) is a medical condition that occurs when a person does not have enough red blood cells. Red blood cells are important because they contain hemoglobin, a protein that carries oxygen from the lungs to the bodys muscles and organs. The body requires oxygen for energy. Therefore, when you are anemic, you may feel tired mentally and physically.
Symptoms of anemia include:7,8,9,10
Fatigue
Weakness
Shortness of breath
Dizziness or fainting
Pale skin, including decreased pinkness of the lips, gums, lining of the eyelids, nail beds and palms
Rapid heart beat (tachycardia)
Feeling cold
Sadness or depression
Decreased sexual function
Difficulty sleeping
