An overwhelming majority of children suffering from cancer live in developing countries. El Salvador is one of the countries that majorly suffers from this problem. Leading treatments and optimism was brought to this suffering nation as part of a program created by St. Judes.
The latest treatment techniques are used to diagnose and cure the awful tragedy that this country is facing. Since El Salvador is a developing country, they were previously not able to get treatments or proper medical attention. This program allowed them to be treated by skilled doctors. As a result of this successful program, 50-70% of the children are now cured. This is a huge feat. There are five key components for developing a successful program like this one. First is having the government on your side, they provide a massive amount of funding and are a good support system. This is crucial because without funding, this program wouldve never been able to work. Next are the quality resources and materials. With the correct materials, this allows doctors to better examine and cure these patients. Third is the quality of the staff such as the nurses, doctors, laboratory workers, and funders. With a strong team, these patients are able to be treated properly and more effectively. Fourth is financial support for all of the operations and treatments necessary, this ties back to number one because with the correct funding and financial support, the patients are given the most successful treatment possible. Lastly is a uniform treatment approach. You need to know the correct procedure when you are a doctor, or else, it could brutally harm the patient and it will not cure them, with the correct resources, staff, and procedures, the patients are given the best treatment possible.
Because this program in El Salvador used all of these five crucial components, it was very successful and saved many lives. If this program could be used in all developing countries, imagine all of the lives that it could save.
