Enc 100 – Balancing Ecosystem
Balancing EcosystemDustin StoneENC/100February 8th, 2016Mathew KimbleBalancing EcosystemDear City Council:I am writing to you about a pressing matter to restore the injustice and unbalanced structure the city’s current ecosystem. We are part of a symbiotic circle the humans have been neglecting their part to maintain balance. An ecosystem is a factor of a biological community that not only has occurrences from local, but chemical factors, and also has physical, that make up the environment, this is regardless of non-living or abiotic. The pressing matter that is causing concern is the unbalanced ecosystem in Glimmerville’s aquatic ecosystem. More specifically the boundaries of this ecosystem are the main focus and need to be addressed for reasons having to do with restoring the lake back to a balanced system. The solo contributors behind this unbalanced system is Grass Carp, and they have made it nearly impossible for the underwater community to live or even have an existence.
The changes that have occurred in the ecosystem of the lake have exponentially influenced all components of living quality for the community and life underwater, specifically within the lake. The Bass fish are at an all-time low. Do to the shortage of Bass the annual Bass Tournament is not able to beheld, which leaves the city bankrupt of much need resources that help both the economical economy, but also the environmental economy. Grass Carp has a track record that tells the tale. They are known in the environmental science world as an invasive species or a non-native species within the lake. When Grass Carp first showed up the city decided to use an ec0-friendly (or so they thought) fertilizer to help with the production of their crops. The plants grew healthy; however the Grass Carp started showing up. The carp started out-competing the native species for resources which then have forced the decrease in they population of the native species. The native species are usually more aggressive, but the Grass Carp does not need to be defensive, and the water does not have any diseases that can affect the Grass Carps survival.
