MemorandumTo: Dress for Success Silent PartnersRe: Employment Structure Plans for Dress for SuccessThe purpose of this memo is to explore all options for our employment plan at Dress for Success. As sales have decreased during the economic downturn, we were forced to let go many part-time employees. Now that sales have since gone back up, we now have the stability to restructure our staff. We have explored the opinions and viewpoints of our employees, local officials in the government, and silent partners, while also taking into consideration ethical principles regarding this decision. Overall we plan to make a decision that is in the best interest of the company.Silent Partners We understand your concern about maintaining our profit margin and that you are worried about profits being too low. Our company also does not want to hurt customer service or their satisfaction, so we are looking into your request to reform employee structure. We understand that the silent partners prefer to choose the money saving, profit maximizing option. It is the same point of view as the shareholder’s, which is to maximize profits (Abram, 2017). Your plan would decrease costs, and increase profits. Moreover, firing one of the full-time employees and replacing them with part-time employees is moving in the right direction. Part-time employees would not receive the same hourly wage plus benefits as a full-time manager, so this would reduce expenses. An advantage of using part-time employees is flexible scheduling. Part time employees can be scheduled on a needs only basis, which saves costs by not having excess workers wasting resources. In contrast, full-time employees need to work a minimum numbers of hours which is coupled with their benefits making them more costly to have scheduled, especially in slow business hours (Kokemuller, n.d.). Part-time workers could still do their job at a reduced cost and make profit when full-time managers are off duty. Hence, cutting expense of hiring employee could save money and maximize profits at the same time.Lastly, you believe this plan could go well without hurting customer service or satisfaction by remaining one full-time manager to work the extra hours and manage Dress for Success alone. According to Capability Jane, a part time recruitment agency, hiring part-time employees could provide the diversity in employee skills and experience that is sometimes difficult to attract in fewer full time employees. This may lead to part-time workers producing more quality work due to shorter work hours and more creativity while working. In addition, the companys diversity could increase customer satisfaction due to differing personalities being able to interact and attract differing customer personalities (Jane, n.d.).
